Nagaoka Sotoku University introduces VR technology to nursing education with "mcframe MOTION VR-learning"
Expanding learning opportunities for clinical experience through VR teaching materials using live-action footage

Business Engineering Corporation (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masakazu Haneda; hereinafter referred to as "B-EN-G") is pleased to announce that Nagaoka Chutoku University (Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture) has introduced the VR learning system "mcframe MOTION VR-learning" (hereinafter referred to as "VR-learning").
By introducing this system, Nagaoka Sotoku University has been able to conduct exercises using VR teaching materials for nursing education, providing practical, immersive learning that was not possible with traditional educational methods.
Today we published an article on the case study on the following website:

■ Background of introduction
Nagaoka Sutoku University is a nursing university in the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture that is responsible for training health, medical, and welfare professionals. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the strain on the field, the university has had fewer practical training opportunities, making it difficult to provide students with sufficient learning opportunities. In addition, the university also faced the challenge of making it difficult to create flexible scenarios that crossed learning areas with conventional VR teaching materials that used full CG.
■Reasons for choosing VR-learning
- Ability to in-house develop VR teaching materials for integrated practical exercises covering multiple learning areas
- Flexibility to prepare teaching materials according to curriculum progress and expected scenarios, which is difficult with ready-made VR teaching materials
- Reducing the gap between exercises and practical training by using live-action footage as teaching materials
■Introduction effects
- VR teaching materials will be used to supplement the practical training opportunities that have decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring learning opportunities
- Teachers themselves can edit the VR teaching materials, allowing them to flexibly create scenarios that foster practical application skills in integrated practical exercises and other scenarios tailored to learning goals.
■Customer comments
We thought that VR-learning could be widely applied because it allows us to create teaching materials based on scenarios we have invented and prepare teaching materials in line with the progress of the curriculum. In addition, live-action VR images can reproduce almost the same clinical situations. We thought that immersive and realistic teaching materials could reduce the gap between exercises and practical training.
The places and time for practical training are extremely limited. For example, practical training in operating rooms is not something that can be secured for all students, even at our university, which has a medical corporation within the group, and it is not always possible to provide equal opportunities to everyone. We believe that it is important to turn these valuable opportunities into VR teaching materials and provide more equal learning opportunities as a future initiative.
