This survey was conducted on Japanese companies with overseas subsidiaries, mainly in Asia, regardless of business size, industry, or business category, with the aim of clarifying the actual status and challenges of information systems and digital technology utilization in the midst of rapidly changing economic and social conditions overseas.

3. What the survey results revealed

  • Foreign exchange fluctuations such as the weaker yen and stronger dollar, as well as increases in labor costs and prices overseas, have an impact on overseas business.
  • Reflecting post-coronavirus changes, companies are turning their attention to expanding sales and market share in the booming Asian market.
  • In a highly uncertain business environment, 80% of respondents felt the need to strengthen the use of IT at overseas bases.
  • Fifty percent of companies use Excel to exchange group management data (accounting, sales, purchasing, inventory), including those at overseas offices, between the head office and overseas offices, and the complexity of using Excel was cited as an issue.
