Nikko Electric has decided to introduce mcframe PLM in order to build a ``Group Integrated Bill of Materials'' that will enable information sharing on parts and components across the group and the provision of data that will help management make decisions.

■Issues before implementation

  • Within group companies, the method of sharing information between the planning, design and development side and the manufacturing side became individualized, making smooth collaboration difficult.
  • Because the planning, design and development side could not obtain performance information from the manufacturing side, they were unable to fully optimize parts and materials selection and examine the validity of costs.

■Introduction effects

  • Visualize parts and materials inventory and reuse effects across the group
  • We can provide information that is useful for calculating costs when ordering parts and suppressing excessive orders.
  • Provides information useful for product planning decisions and establishes a foundation for moving away from decisions that rely solely on intuition and experience.

■Points for introducing mcframe PLM
We focused on the ability to construct a bill of materials that allows for integrated information management across the group while taking advantage of the parts and materials management system used by each group company. In addition, by repeatedly confirming operation in a PoC (proof of concept) environment using actual data from pachinko machines, we were able to grasp the expected effects and image after implementation.

■Comments from customer project members
The members who have been working on the project are actively using mcframe PLM, and for example, the person in charge of the production engineering department who makes jigs now always pulls the latest drawings from PLM. Similarly, recognition of mcframe PLM is steadily expanding in various departments.
In order to quickly roll out the PLM system across the group, we plan to first establish a solid track record within the company. Furthermore, as a next step, we would like to implement a bill of materials equivalent to M-BOM (Manufacturing-BOM) into mcframe PLM, which will lead to labor savings and automation of manufacturing and maintenance operations at group companies.
